Self Study Technician License Exam Preparation Course

This course provides a self-study strategy for preparing to take the FCC Technician Class Amateur Radio by using the Hamradio School Technician License Course textbook. The material presented in this course is valid for exams taken between November 2021 and June 2022.

How to use this course

Follow these steps to obtain your FCC Technician Class Amateur Radio License:

  1. Obtain the textbook: Technician License Course, 3rd Edition, by Stu Turner. You must have this specific textbook to complete this course.

  2. Study and learn the material in the book; audio support files are available for students who desire additional explanation of the concepts presented in the textbook.

  3. Take the quiz for each section of the textbook and review the additional material (PDF documents, links to topical websites, and videos) provided for each section.

  4. Schedule a time to take the exam using one of these resources:

Students in the Fargo-Moorhead area, and those affilated with the NDSU Amateur Radio Society, may contact the RRRA to inquire about an online exam.

  1. Take and pass the exam. Information about the exam structure is available on the Ham Radio School “Dissecting Your Technician Exam” page. Online exams are normally processed by the FCC in less than a week; in-person exam results may take longer to process.
